Soccer season kicks off

What most would view as a successful season last year was still a failure in the eyes of the Christian Brothers soccer team. Despite finishing with a league record of 7-3-2, the team was unable to reach the playoffs, finishing right behind 2nd place Kennedy. This year promises to be different. Sixteen players are returning to the team, led by senior captains Jady Nunan and Aaron Tsuda, as well as sophomore goalkeeper Denis Hoey.

Having so many returning players can only mean good things for the Falcons. "This team knows how to play together and win. All the experience we have will really help us during the course of the season," said senior Anthony Pease. Not only is the team full of experience, but it has added some important newcomers as well. Sophomores Kevin Goldthwaite and Andre Schmid form a revamped midfield, and juniors Mark Morrow and Jon Maxwell-Jolly should make some big contributions as well.

The Varsity squad is solid from top to bottom, as was indicated by their success in the pre-season Del Campo Tournament. The Falcons utilized their entire bench in running off a perfect 5-0 record to take first place in their division of ten teams. Impressive victories over 7th ranked Del Campo and a tough team from Vintage HS in the championship game showed that this year’s team is a force to be reckoned with. "Our depth will be an important factor this season and should give us an edge over a lot of teams," commented senior Brandon Schumacher. With the mix of talent, depth and experience that this team possesses, don’t be surprised to see them go far in the playoffs and pick up a Metro League Championship along the way.
