Faith,
service, and community are the core principals of the Lasallian Youth. These principles
brought over 100 people to the Manhattan Lasallian Youth Assembly this summer. People from
both sides of the United States came together bound by the ideals of St. John Baptist De
La Salle.
The Catholic faith was an important part of the conference. The week
began with a mass in which the priest taught about the liturgy as the youths celebrated
together. There was a prayer service every morning and night. The fun-filled week closed
with a beautiful mass complete with a slide show of the assemblys events.
The Lasallians served the New York community for three days, eight
hours a day at various sites. "Service was the most rewarding part of the trip,"
said senior Ashley Iwafuchi. For her service, Ashley worked for Gods Love We
Deliver, an organization that prepares and delivers food to home-bound AIDS patients.
Senior Mike OBrien stated, "Distance doesnt really
matter; we are all Lasallian." Probably the most exciting part of the trip was
meeting new people. They were very friendly which helps when one is 3000 miles away from
home. The CB spirit was truly alive in the students.
Visiting New York was a great way for CBs Lasallian Youth to
widen their faith, serve the community, and build great relationships within the group and
beyond.
