Brothers pride was in full effect as several hundred students, parents, and alumni watched the Falcons smash the Eagles 52 - 42 in the home opener against El Camino. Although defense played a major part in deciding the games outcome, the offense is what ran the game.

Behind what is being reported as the biggest line in the Metro League, the Christian Brothers Falcons rushed for 433 yards. The one-two punch of Albert Hollis (245 yards, 4TDs) and Ronnie Gayton (123 yards, 2 TDs) gave the Falcons the push they needed to keep the game close enough for the eventual victory. Steve Cuckovich’s late touchdown pass to Jorrel Verella with less than three minutes to go, gave the Falcons a 45 to 42 lead. "They were quick, but we countered strong," said junior Robert Rose. Joey Blecha’s pass interception followed by a quick score by Hollis capped the 52 to 42 CBS victory.

Penalties plagued the Eagles, as well as three defensive fourth down stops by the Falcon defense. The Falcons are a serious league threat this year and look to be contenders for the Metro title this season. "We have to take this season one game at a time," said senior Will Hayes.

The Freshman started the sweep with a 29-0 victory over El Camino. Justin Cummings rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns, and Pat Domek continued the streak with 70 yards and one touchdown. The shutout was kept intact when Brian Valdez intercepted a pass on the 10 yard-line with time running out. The frosh dawgs look to have a very successful season in the Metro.

The Junior Varsity Falcons continued the winning precedent with a 26-6 victory. Brad LaSalle lead the Falcons with three touchdowns, one on a 48 yard quarterback sneak. Tied at half-time 6-6, the Falcons brought home the victory with a scoring splurge in the second half.

The CBS opening week devastation of the Eagles sets the tone for a very physical but victorious year for the high scoring Falcons.
