What's Cookin'?

Brittney Staropoli
Feature Writer

He has applied his craft all across the country, from New York to Los Angeles, and even in Miami. Now Bob Girasek is facing the discriminating tastes of Christian Brothers as our new kitchen manager.

Bob Girasek has been practicing the culinary arts since he was eighteen years old. His first cooking job was at the Sheraton in Miami, Florida. Here, Mr. Girasek was influenced by the diverse styles of many international chefs hailing from a variety of countries, such as Cuba, Russia, Greece and China. As a result, Bob Girasek has developed a flare for preparing international fare.

So far this year, Christian Brothers students have had the opportunity to sample Mexican, Italian, and even Southeast Asian delights. Dishes from other countries are to follow.

In addition to working in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Bob Girasek has enjoyed working in some of Sacramento's best restaurants. For twelve years he served as a saucier at the stylish Harlow's on J Street. He has also worked at the eclectic Tower Cafe.

When asked what sort of dishes CB students can look forward to, Mr. Girasek proudly responded, "International food...Chinese, French, Italian, African and Filipino". In addition to these exciting dishes, we can look forward to his stews. "Stews are my specialty, stews and casseroles."

According to Mr. Girasek, the most important factor in selecting a cafeteria entree is whether or not the students will like it. The taste preference of his customers is valued above all else. With this attitude of respect towards the students, Bob Girasek is bound to go far in the hearts of all Christian Brother students.
