The
freshman physical education course involves basic instruction in the areas of team sports,
individual sports, and conditioning to develop the student's physical abilities and to
give insight into the basic concepts involved in the various areas of physical activity. |

Physical Education II, Male/Female |

Required course for all Sophomores |
The
sophomore physical education course is a continuation of the activities and skill
development from the freshman year. The students reinforce basic skills acquired the
previous year and develop new skills by learning concepts of, and participating in, new
physical activities. This course also includes a quarter of Health which entails
instruction and certification in First Aid and CPR, guidance in nutrition, lifetime
fitness skills, and health consumerism. |

Physical Education III, IV, Male/Female |

Elective course offered to Juniors and Seniors |
Instruction
is offered in two specific sports per quarter. The course is designed to further develop
the skills acquired in Physical Education I and II. Students will be asked to indicate
first, second, and third choices from the following paired sports: A. volleyball /
basketball
B. football / running
C. soccer / softball
D. tennis / handball / racquetball |

Weight and Agility Training for Males |
5 Credits;

Elective course open to Junior and Senior males. Prerequisite: Approval of the department coordinator and a "B" or
better in PE I and II . |
This
course is open to the athlete or non-athlete who wishes to develop body strength, bulk,
endurance and lateral movement. The goal of the course is to increase athletic ability
through weight training and agility (quickness) methods. Students will be required to
achieve certain standards on weight-lifting and participate in the agility program which
includes quickness drills, handball, form running, and other sports which improve one's
hand and eye coordination. |

Weight Training and Self Defense for Females |

Semester |
Elective course open to Junior and Senior females. |
This
course is offered to female athletes and non-athletes who wish to develop strength,
flexibility, speed and build cardiovascular fitness. Part of the class will be devoted to
self defense, with both passive and aggressive techniques discussed and utilized. The
goals are to build and tone muscles for competition, to improve general fitness and to
utilize conditioning to help protect yourself in life threatening situations. Students
will participate in aerobic and anaerobic conditioning sessions along with weight
training. |

OFFERED OUTSIDE THE REGULAR SCHOOL DAY TO STUDENTS 15 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER.
FIRST AND SECOND QUARTER, BEFORE SCHOOL AND THIRD AND FOURTH QUARTER, AFTER SCHOOL. |
There is
no fee for this course which consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction in the rules
and regulations of driving. Students will learn the laws related to operating a motor
vehicle and how to respond to driving problems in various environments, under adverse
weather conditions, and in emergencies. In addition, proper attitudes and skills necessary
to become safe, competent drivers will be emphasized. This course meets the State of
California requirement to obtain a driving permit. |
