Spanish I and Spanish I Review 10 Credits;
Year
An introductory course in the Spanish language, with emphasis on the development of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and general knowledge of Hispanic culture and civilization. Fulfills U.C. "e" and C.S.U. subject requirement.
Accelerated Spanish I 10 Credits;
Year
This course is similar in content to Spanish I. Topics will be addressed in-depth, with an attempt to master them at a higher level than the regular Spanish I course. Accelerated Spanish is intended for college-preparatory students with the desire to fulfill college requirements by taking the Advanced Placement Exam in the senior year. Fulfills U.C. "e" and C.S.U. subject requirement.
Spanish II and Spanish II Review 10 Credits;
Year
Prerequisite: Spanish I with a "C" grade or permission of instructor
A continuation of the first year of Spanish with further development of language skills. Fulfills U.C. "e" and C.S.U. subject requirement.
Spanish 2B 10 Credits;
Year
Prerequisite: Spanish I with a "C" grade or permission of instructor
This course is a continuation of the first year of Spanish. It is less intense and is modified for students to progress at a slower pace. It is not intended for students who want to go on to Spanish III. Fulfills U.C. "e" and C.S.U. subject requirement.
Accelerated Spanish II 10 Credits;
Year
Prerequisite: Accelerated Spanish I with a "B" or permission of instructor
This course is similar in content to Spanish II. Topics are addressed in-depth, with an attempt to master them at a higher level than the regular Spanish II course. Accelerated Spanish II is intended for college preparatory students with the desire to fulfill college requirements by taking the Advanced Placement Exam in the senior year. Fulfills U.C. "e" and C.S.U. subject requirement.
Spanish III 10 Credits;
Year
Prerequisite: Spanish II with a "B" grade or permission of instructor
Continued study of the Spanish language and culture, with emphasis on the finer points of structure and an intense effort to improve communication skills. In addition, there are readings in history and literature, with the goal of increasing vocabulary and sight-reading skills. Fulfills U.C. "f" and C.S.U. elective requirement.
Honors Spanish III 10 Credits;
Year
Prerequisite: Permission of instructor
This is the third year of the accelerated program preparing students for the Spanish Advanced Placement Examination in the senior year. Emphasis is placed on completing the basic grammar, as well as intensive work on furthering the writing, speaking, listening, and reading skills of the student. Fulfills U.C. "f" and C.S.U. elective requirement.
Spanish IV 10 Credits;
Year
Prerequisite: Permission of instructor
Spanish IV focuses on continued grammar study and development of listening and speaking skills, as well as in-depth reading and writing development. Students completing this course should have a firm foundation in the language and the ability to understand and speak on a more advanced level. Fulfills U.C. "f" and C.S.U. elective requirement.
Advanced Placement Spanish 10 Credits;
Year
Prerequisite: Permission of instructor
This is an honors course and is an intense and in-depth program preparing students to take the College Board Advanced Placement Examination at the end of the year. A final review of grammar is included, as well as consistent development of the reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Fulfills U.C. "f" and C.S.U. elective requirement.
