French I and French I Review 10 Credits;
Year
An introductory course in the French language with emphasis on the development of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and culture. Fulfills U.C. "e" and C.S.U. subject requirement.
Accelerated French I 10 Credits;
Year
This course is similar in content to French I. Topics will be more in-depth, with an attempt to master them at a higher level than the regular French I course. Accelerated French is open to all students, including college preparatory students who desire to fulfill college requirements by taking the Advanced Placement exam in the senior year. Fulfills U.C. "e" and C.S.U. subject requirement.
French II and French II Review 10 Credits;
Year
Prerequisite: French I with a "C" grade or permission of instructor
A continuation of the first year of French with further development of language skills. Fulfills U.C. "e" and C.S.U. subject requirement.
Accelerated French II 10 Credits;
Year
Prerequisite: Accelerated French I with a " B" or permission of instructor
This course is similar in content to French II. Topics are taught in greater depth, with an attempt to master them at a higher level than the regular French II course. Accelerated French II is open to all student, including college preparatory students with a desire to fulfill college requirements by taking the Advanced Placement exam in the senior year. Fulfills U.C. "e" and C.S.U. subject requirement.
French III 10 Credits;
Year
Prerequisite: French II with a "B" grade or permission of instructor
French III continues the study of the French language and culture, with emphasis on the finer points of structure and an intense effort to improve communication skills. In addition, there are readings in history and literature, with the goal of increasing vocabulary and sight-reading skills. Fulfills U.C. "f" and C.S.U. elective requirement.
Honors French III 10 Credits;
Year
Prerequisite: Permission of instructor
This is the third year of the accelerated program including preparation for those who plan to take the French Advanced Placement Examination in the senior year. Emphasis is placed on completing the basic grammar, as well as intensive work on furthering the writing, speaking, listening, and reading skills of the student. Fulfills U.C. "f" and C.S.U. elective requirement.
French IV 10 Credits;
Year
Prerequisite: Permission of instructor
French IV focuses on the continued study of grammar, refining of listening and speaking skills, and continued in-depth reading and writing development. Students completing this course should have a firm foundation in the language and the ability to understand and speak on an advanced level. Fulfills U.C. "f" and C.S.U. elective requirement.
Advanced Placement French 10 Credits;
Year
Prerequisite: Permission of instructor
This is a college level course and is an intense and in-depth program preparing students to take the College Board Advanced Placement Examination at the end of the year. A final review of the grammar is included, as well as consistent development of the reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Fulfills U.C. "f" and C.S.U. elective requirement.. Students who take and pass the AP test with a 3 or higher may be eligible for college credit.
