FINE ARTS: The courses listed under Fine and Performing Arts may be used to satisfy the Fine Arts graduation requirement. Those listed under Applied Arts do not satisfy the Fine Arts requirement.
Fine Arts Survey I 5 Credits;
Semester
Required course for all freshmen not enrolled in a performing art.
Fine Arts Survey I is an introduction to the visual arts. Along with the theory involved in understanding the visual arts, the student will receive hands-on experience with various visual arts media. The course will include field trips to museums and theaters. The students will be required to supply some of their own art supplies for the course. Fulfills the C.S.U. subject requirement.

Fine Arts Survey II 5 Credits;
Semester
Prerequisite: Fine Arts Survey I or consent of instructor.
Fine Arts Survey II explores the elements of art covered in Fine Arts Survey I in greater depth. The student will be solving problems with various two-dimensional and three-dimensional media. This course is for students who wish to continue their exploration of the visual arts but do not necessarily have the skills needed to do the type of work required in a class geared toward more sophisticated problems and independent exploration expected in studio art. Students are required to purchase some of their own supplies. Fulfills the C.S.U. subject requirement.

Studio Art 5 Credits;
Semester
Prerequisite: Fine Arts Survey I with "B+" or better grade or consent of instructor.
Studio art (advanced art) is for students with advanced skills and abilities in the visual arts. The class will explore problems in design and work in two-dimensional and three-dimensional media. Students will be encouraged to concentrate in an area of art in which they excel. Students who wish to prepare a portfolio for the College Board Advanced Placement program may do so in this course. Students are required to purchase some of their own materials. Fulfills U.C. "f" and C.S.U. elective requirement.

Studio Art II - Independent Study 5 Credits;
Semester
Prerequisite: Studio Art with a "B+" or better and consent of the instructor.
This course is designed for the student who wants to investigate independently and thoroughly a specific aspect or medium of art. The student should have a plan in mind as to the direction that she/he wants the investigation to take. The student must be self-disciplined and knowledgeable and able to work independently. Fulfills C.S.U. elective requirement.

Three Dimensional Art 5 Credits;
Semester
Prerequisite: Grade of "B+" or better in Fine Arts Survey II or Studio Art and consent of instructor.
This advanced art class is devoted to work in the following areas: Sculpture (wood, metal, paper and plastic), fiber art, jewelry, construction and other techniques. Each student is encouraged to express individuality in developing his/her own potential as they gain skills in and comprehension of the various media. Supplies: Voucher of $35.00. Fulfills C.S.U. elective requirement.

Advanced Painting 5 Credits;
Semester
Prerequisite: Grade of "B+" or better in Studio Art and consent of instructor.
Introduction of the medium of transparent waterbase painting. Covers the media methods, traditional and modern composition, color relationship and color theory. Students will become familiar with the broad range in this medium. Gallery visit and submission to local art show are required. Fulfills C.S.U. elective requirement.

Cartooning 5 Credits;
Semester
Prerequisite: Grade of "B+" or better in Fine Arts Survey II or Studio Art and consent of instructor.
This is an introductory course for the student that is interested in cartooning and/or caricatures. Drawing fundamental will be taught and be heavily emphasized. The course will also cover the history of cartooning. Students will be required to visit an art gallery and keep a sketchbook as a requirement of the course. Cost of supplies will run approximately $20-$25. Fulfills C.S.U. elective requirement.
