Freshman Choir 10 Credits;
Year
Open to all Freshman students.
The Freshman Choir provides an opportunity for new students to develop basic music reading skills, vocal technique, ensemble technique, and performance skills. A variety of musical compositions representing a wide range of contemporary and historical musical styles are learned and performed each year. Daily practice outside school hours is required. Students will also participate in a variety of liturgies and performances during the course of the school year.

Concert Choir 10 Credits;

Open to all students
Concert choir is a large singing group which performs three to four major concerts per year, as well as providing music for prayer services, liturgies and other special events. The students work on proper breathing and singing techniques, sight-singing and basic music theory and music history by rehearsing music ranging from unison to six-part harmonies, a cappella and accompanied, in a variety of languages, styles and cultures. The group also performs major choral works with instrumental accompaniment provided by students from class, the concert band, jazz band and orchestra. Working together to create a unified sound and blend and healthy vocal habits, while learning many different types of music are the goals for concert choir. Participation in all performances is required. Fulfills the C.S.U. subject requirement.

Women's Choir 10 Credits;
Year
Prerequisite: Audition required for admittance, one year of Concert Choir preferred
A relatively small (approximately 20) group of selected, advanced singers, chosen by audition the previous spring on the basis of sight-reading, tonal memory and vocal blending. The focus will be on women's choral literature ranging from classical music to jazz and rock. The students will work on proper singing techniques, sight-singing, music theory and history, and vocal blend. Not only will this choir perform at all the school concerts, it will also do many additional functions such as liturgies, special events and outside requests. It is preferred that it be taken concurrently with Concert Choir if at all possible. Fulfills U.C. "f" one time and C.S.U. subject requirement.

Jazz Choir 10 Credits;
Year
Prerequisite: Audition required for admittance. Auditions are previous spring. One year of Concert Choir preferred.
A small select group of advanced singers (approximately 8-16) with pianist, drummer and possibly bass player. The students are chosen the previous spring on the basis of an audition of sight-singing, tonal memory and vocal blend. The group will focus on the American art form of vocal jazz: the close 4, 5 and 6-part harmonies, vocal improvisation, both accompanied and a cappella. This group not only performs at school concerts, it also combines with the Jazz Band for a special Jazz Concert, sings at local jazz festivals and invitationals and does special outside events. Fulfills C.S.U. subject requirement.
